Starkey at Piccolo Hearing

Starkey launched Omega AI+ on October 1, 2026, so if you are reading this soon after, you may be choosing between the newest family and a slightly older one that your plan covers more fully. That is a common and sensible decision, and it starts with a free hearing test at our Duluth or Houston clinic.

From your results, our licensed hearing instrument specialists recommend a family and a technology level. At the fitting we program the aids to your audiogram and verify with real-ear measurement, the probe-microphone check that shows what the aid is actually doing in your ear canal.

After that you have a 45-day trial with adjustments included, and ongoing follow-up care comes with aids bought from us. Cleaning, domes, wax guards and minor repairs are done in the clinic. Factory repairs go to Starkey and are tracked by us.

Bought your Starkey aids elsewhere? We can usually service and reprogram them. Some locked models and some older devices cannot be programmed with current software, and we will check before quoting.

We fit most major brands, so a Starkey recommendation from us means the test pointed there.

About Starkey

Starkey is an American company headquartered in Minnesota, and it is the only one of the brands we fit that is based in the United States. It is also the manufacturer behind the Start Hearing plan network, which is one of the networks we work with.

Starkey is known for pushing health features into hearing aids: step and activity counts, social engagement tracking, fall detection on some models, and more recently sleep tracking. Whether you care about any of that is a personal question, and plenty of people choose Starkey purely for the sound.

Current Starkey families (October 2026)

Verified on Starkey’s US site this month.

  • Omega AI+. The newest flagship, launched October 2026. Rechargeable models are listed at up to 51 hours per charge. Bluetooth LE Audio with an Auracast assistant in the app for venues that broadcast audio. Health and activity tracking in the My Starkey app covers exercise, social activity, sleep and respiratory rate. Starkey lists receiver-in-canal, rechargeable and battery custom in-the-ear, and non-wireless custom styles across the platform.
  • Edge AI. The previous premium family, still current. Rechargeable, also up to 51 hours, with LE Audio streaming and Auracast readiness. The My Starkey app adds exercise monitoring, cognitive activity tracking, fall detection and a self-guided balance exercise.
  • G Series AI. The value family, in custom (CIC and ITE), receiver-in-canal and behind-the-ear styles, with Bluetooth streaming and the My Starkey app.

Starkey’s app lineup is also worth knowing: My Starkey for wireless models, T2 Remote for non-wireless custom aids on Omega AI+ and G Series AI, Hear Share for sharing activity data with family, and Relax for tinnitus soundscapes.

Who tends to do well with Starkey

People who want their hearing aids to double as a simple activity tracker, or whose family wants fall alerts, are the natural Starkey audience. People who prefer a custom in-the-ear aid have more current options here than with some brands, including non-wireless versions for anyone who does not want Bluetooth at all.

People who stream to iPhone and recent Android phones are covered by LE Audio on the current families. People with tinnitus can use the app-based tools; our tinnitus page explains what sound therapy realistically does.

None of this replaces the test, and the trial exists so you can compare.

Styles available

Receiver-in-canal, behind-the-ear and custom in-the-ear are all available across the current families. Custom aids, including CIC and ITE, are made from a 3D ear impression we take in the clinic.

Care and troubleshooting for Starkey aids

Rechargeable Starkey aids charge overnight in their case. If a side will not charge, clean the contacts and check that the dome has not slid up over the receiver. A battery that no longer lasts the day is a factory repair.

The My Starkey app controls programs, volume, streaming and the health features. If the app cannot find the aids after a phone update, forget them in the phone’s Bluetooth list, restart the aids in the charger, and re-pair from inside the app. Bring your phone to any visit so we can do this with you.

Wax guards and domes wear out. We stock them at both clinics and show you how to change them.

Starkey compared with other brands

The brands most often weighed against Starkey at our clinics are ReSound, Oticon and Phonak. All make good aids at every level. Starkey’s distinguishing features are the health tracking and the breadth of custom styles; whether those matter to you is a conversation, not a sales pitch.

Because Omega AI+ is brand new, plan benefits may land on Edge AI or G Series AI for a while, and that is worth knowing before you fall for the newest model. Read the hearing aid cost guide and the insurance page, then book a free test in Duluth or Houston. Ask us for a written quote you can take home.

Common questions

Can you program Starkey hearing aids I did not buy from you?

Usually, yes. We run a free hearing test, read the aids, and refit them to your current audiogram with real-ear measurement. Some locked models and some older Starkey devices cannot be programmed in current software, and we will tell you before you pay anything.

Do you repair Starkey aids in Duluth and Houston?

Yes. Cleaning, receiver and dome changes, wax guard swaps and minor repairs are done in the clinic. Case or battery failures and anything needing a factory bench go to Starkey, and we handle the shipping and paperwork.

Will my plan cover Starkey hearing aids?

Coverage varies by plan, and we check your benefit before any purchase. We work with plan hearing networks including UnitedHealthcare Hearing, TruHearing, Nations Hearing, Amplifon Hearing Health Care and Start Hearing. Starkey is also the manufacturer behind Start Hearing.

How long is the trial on Starkey aids?

45 days, with adjustments included. Ask us for the trial terms in writing.

Do I need a smartphone to use Starkey aids?

No. Starkey's wireless models are designed around the My Starkey app, but they function without a phone. Starkey also makes non-wireless custom aids that use the simple T2 Remote app or no app at all.

Does Starkey have anything for tinnitus?

The My Starkey app includes tinnitus management for current wireless models, and Starkey offers a separate Relax app with soundscapes. Hearing aids do not cure tinnitus, but many people notice it less once hearing is corrected. We assess tinnitus with your hearing test.
