Unitron at Piccolo Hearing
Unitron does not advertise much, so most people meet it through a plan benefit or through a hearing specialist who recommends it. That is a good way to meet it. At Piccolo, a Unitron recommendation comes out of the same process as any other brand: a free hearing test at our Duluth or Houston clinic, then a conversation about your results, your budget and your benefit.
If Unitron fits, we order the aids, program them to your audiogram at the fitting, and verify with real-ear measurement. That probe-microphone check confirms what the aid is delivering in your canal, which is the only place it matters.
Then you have a 45-day trial with adjustments along the way, and ongoing follow-up care included with aids bought from us. Cleaning, domes, wax guards, receivers and small repairs are done in the clinic. Anything needing the factory goes to Unitron and is tracked by us.
Bought your Unitron aids elsewhere? We can usually service and reprogram them. Some locked models and some older devices cannot be opened in current software, and we check that before we quote.
We fit most major brands. If the test points to another brand, we say so.
About Unitron
Unitron is a Canadian brand owned by Sonova, the Swiss group that also owns Phonak. The two share engineering and a universal Bluetooth approach Unitron calls Made For All, which connects to iPhone, Android and ordinary Bluetooth devices rather than one phone platform. Unitron’s control app is Remote Plus.
What Unitron is known for, among people who fit hearing aids, is flexibility on price. Its lineups tend to keep battery-powered models alongside rechargeable ones, and it has historically let wearers try a higher technology level before committing. Ask us what is current on that.
Current Unitron families (October 2026)
Checked on Unitron’s US product pages this month. Unitron names its models by style: Moxi for receiver-in-canal, Stride for behind-the-ear, and Insera for custom in-the-ear.
- Smile platform. The newest platform. Moxi S-RX and Moxi S-R are rechargeable receiver-in-canal aids. Insera S-R is a rechargeable custom in-the-ear aid, and Insera S-10 NW O is a small non-wireless custom aid. All use the Remote Plus app except the non-wireless model.
- Vivante platform. The previous flagship, still current and broad. Receiver-in-canal: Moxi V-R and Moxi V-RT (rechargeable) and Moxi V-312 (size 312 battery). Behind-the-ear: Stride V-PR (rechargeable), Stride V-M (312 battery), Stride V-SP (size 13 battery) and Stride V-UP (size 675 battery) for severe to profound loss.
- Blu platform. Custom in-the-ear models remain available: Insera B-312 with Bluetooth, and non-wireless Insera B-312 NW O and Insera B-10 NW O.
Who tends to do well with Unitron
People whose plan benefit lands on Unitron, which is common, tend to get a lot of aid for the money. People who want a choice between rechargeable and disposable batteries in the same family have that here. People with severe to profound loss have a current power option in Stride V-UP.
People who want universal Bluetooth without paying for the Phonak name often end up here as well, since the connectivity approach is shared. People who want a tiny custom aid with no wireless at all have the NW O models.
As with any brand, the test decides, and the trial lets you confirm.
Styles available
Receiver-in-canal (Moxi), behind-the-ear (Stride) and custom in-the-ear (Insera) are all current. Custom aids are built from a 3D ear impression we take in the clinic.
Care and troubleshooting for Unitron aids
Rechargeable Moxi and Stride models charge overnight in their case. Keep the contacts clean and check that domes have not ridden up over the receiver. A battery that no longer lasts the day is a factory repair.
Battery models use size 312, 13 or 675 cells depending on the model. Leave the battery door open overnight to let moisture out, especially in Houston.
The Remote Plus app handles volume, programs and streaming on wireless models. If it cannot find the aids after a phone update, forget them in your phone’s Bluetooth settings, restart the aids, and pair again from inside the app. Bring your phone to any visit.
Wax guards and domes are consumables. We stock them at both clinics and show you how to change them.
Unitron compared with other brands
Unitron is most often compared with Phonak, for obvious reasons, and with Bernafon, which sits in a similar position inside the Demant group. If a plan covers one and not another, that usually settles it. If you are paying out of pocket, the trial settles it.
Unitron is often the brand where the plan benefit covers the most, so the first question is what your plan includes. The insurance page explains how we check that, and the hearing aid cost guide gives typical national ranges for context.
